Empowering Women Through Skill Development: ANID’s Wood Carving Workshop

On Women’s Day 2022, ANID partnered with Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai Campus to host a truly heartwarming event. This collaborative effort brought together women who work as domestic helpers and their employers for a unique wood carving workshop in Dubai.

The primary objective of this initiative was to empower these women by enhancing their skills and equipping them with an alternative career path they could pursue once they return to their home countries. The beauty of this profession lies in its versatility as it can be carried out as a home-based industry, providing an opportunity for financial independence.

During the workshop, participants not only honed their wood carving skills but also learned the art of transforming raw wood into exquisite pieces of craftsmanship. Beyond the immediate skill development, this event had a ripple effect by encouraging the passing down of knowledge to younger generations and anyone interested in learning this traditional art form.

ANID’s commitment to women’s empowerment extends beyond just celebrating Women’s Day. Through initiatives like the wood carving workshop, we strive to provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

This heartwarming event was a testament to the positive impact that collaboration and skill development can have on individuals, their families, and their communities. We look forward to more such initiatives that empower women and create a brighter future for all
